Festival Internacional del Caribe (Fiesta del Fuego) inaugural

In July 1983 Santiago de Cuba held the first Festival Internacional del Caribe, also known as Fiesta del Fuego. This annual week-long festival celebrates Santiago's Afro-Caribbean heritage with colorful parades, folkloric music and the symbolic “burning of the devil” ritual. It has become one of Cuba's largest cultural events, uniting Cuban and Caribbean music and dance traditions.
