First Cubadisco Festival and Awards

In 1997 Havana hosted the inaugural Cubadisco Festival and Awards, Cuba's national music fair. Over a week, Cuban artists and groups presented new albums across genres (son, rumba, salsa, trova, classical, etc.), with concerts and industry panels. Cubadisco became the premier event recognizing the island's recording artists and promoting Cuban music internationally.
