Los Van Van, founded on December 4, 1969 by bassist Juan Formell in Havana, became Cubas most famous dance band. They pioneered the "songo" style by fusing traditional son cubano with electric bass, organ and new percussion techniques. Over decades Van Van wrote many dance hits and helped define Cuban popular music through the 70s, 80s and beyond.
